Who We Are
Dinner Table and Breakfast Table provide a nourishing, family-style meal to individuals and families. We want our guests to feel as welcome and honored as if they were guests in our homes. So we use tablecloths and real dishes, and we share food around the table. Volunteers sit and dine with guests whenever space allows. We currently feed between 60 and 100 guests every Wednesday night and between 40 and 50 guests every Saturday morning.
West Central Community Garden not only improves the availability of nutritious food to West Central residents, but it also provides a place for neighbors to gather and get to know one another. The garden currently features 47 raised growing beds. During the 2013 growing season, approximately one third of the beds were tended by neighborhood residents, including three families from the local elementary school, allowing them to supplement their nutrition with the fresh fruits and vegetables they grew. The remaining beds were tended by neighborhood residents and volunteers, and the food grown was donated to Dinner Table and the local food bank, Our Place Ministries. The garden also provides gleaning beds for the hungry to supplement their diets.
What We Do
West Central Episcopal Mission’s mission is twofold: to respond to the practical, relational and spiritual needs of West Central residents; and, to serve as a bridge community where we accompany individuals as they encounter the culture of urban poverty, practice building relationships, and become advocates for the poor in their communities.
