Make a Real-Time Impact During Disasters

Disaster Action Team (DAT) Duty Officers are the behind-the-scenes heroes who coordinate local emergency responses as they unfold. From the comfort of your home, you’ll ensure that people affected by disasters receive the care and support they need by dispatching trained volunteers to the scene.

Child care volunteers assist our staff by engaging in one-on-one interaction with children during indoor/outdoor activities, including assisting with nap or bedtimes, and soothing and nurturing children.  Please visit our website to apply:

There are many screening requirements to be fulfilled to volunteer with the children, and I will walk you though each one:

complete application; provide references and their e-mail addresses

attend a formal tour of the facility

pass two background and fingerprinting checks

obtain a food handler's permit; have a TB test, a current flu shot, and a current TDaP booster

We have volunteers who come to the Wiener Ranch and hug dogs.  This is the easiest gig ever if you like dogs.

The time is at 10 am daily with an appointment in advance so no one gets chomped.  Send an email to schedule.  We are open with appointments on weekdays as well as weekends. 

Having folks come to the farm and hug dogs helps us get them socialized before they are placed in their new homes.  Most come inside and sit and we turn loose the hounds.  If you can't stay seated when asked or are terrified of a group of wiener dogs then this is not the volunteer job for you.

We are located on a farm northwest of Spokane and out of town.  There is no bus line to this area so you will need a car and drive yourself to visit us.

I am open for visitors at 10 am daily ONLY with an appointment in advance.  We need to have large watch dogs locked up so no one is injured.  If roads are too icy or dangerous we are also closed then as well.

Please wear long pants and closed toe shoes as dog toe nails can scratch when jumping on laps.

I am not sitting by email or phone so I need to plan my days in advance when taking dogs back and forth to the vet, etc. so please email me to make an appointment in advance.

At U-District Mentoring, we believe that everyone has something to offer as a mentor. It doesn’t take much to greatly impact a child's life. By showing up consistently, for four hours each month, you can help to decrease depression symptoms, increase self confidence, and encourage higher educational goals for your mentee. Forming these relationships and expanding a child’s horizons can be one of the most rewarding experiences.

Unlike other mentoring programs, we don’t have a waitlist of children. Instead, we intentionally match the mentor and the child based on interests and experiences. Hoping to be matched with a child that likes to paint or play sports? With the help of school counselors, we work to find that perfect match. 

The commitment level is easy, even for the busiest of people. You can create the schedule and get to plan each outing!

This unique volunteer experience provides valuable tools for navigating crisis and conflict by empowering and supporting survivors in the aftermath of abuse and trauma. Our volunteers often refer to their service with us as life changing. We are a small team of individuals from diverse backgrounds who embrace our mission of health, justice, and hope.

The Sexual Assault and Family Trauma Center, a program of Lutheran Community Services Northwest, hosts Spokane's only Certified and Accredited Community Sexual Assault Program (CSAP). Our program provides the following services confidentially and free of charge:

Our volunteer advocates assist survivors via a 24-hour support line that can be directed to volunteers at home (no need to sit in a call center) and medical advocacy, which is provided to victims in person at area hospitals when requested.

As a non-profit, we rely on our volunteers to provide services to survivors outside of business hours. We provide a comprehensive 40-hour training and certification free of charge, as well as ongoing supervision and 24-hour support for all our volunteers. We invest in our volunteer staff and in turn, we ask for a one-year commitment of service and four evening or weekend shifts per month. Applicants are thoroughly screened and vetted for service.

Core training is a 40-hour total class teaching a foundational understanding of sexual violence and basic skills for new sexual assault service providers. Core training is a certification that is required by the Office of Crime Victims Advocacy to work as a victims' advocate in Washington state. We need a gate installed that is about 6' wide and built to match and a new ramp for crippled or injured dogs updated.  We are looking for someone with carpentry experience who has an morning or two to donate to our dog rescue.   We like working mornings before it gets too hot outside.

We also need to build a dog house for a latest guard dog to keep away coyotes at the farm.

We are located northwest of Spokane near Seven Mile and not on the bus line.

We supply the supplies and have the wood all purchased and just need a bit of expert help when we can supply the labor needed too.

We educate the public on responsible pet ownership as well as attend area pet events when we place around 150 dogs a year.  In covid 202 we still placed 96 homeless dogs and a few horses.

Dachshund Rescue NW rescues wiener dogs and we have now placed over 2500 dogs since 1991.

Station & library volunteers commit to working for 2 to 3 hours a week in Spark Central's Creative Station - or they can fill in as a substitute for someone who can't make their regular shift. Their role focuses on making Spark Central a welcoming space accessible to everyone!

These volunteers welcome patrons, answer our Help Desk telephone, describe what Spark Central is to adults, offer free membership to new guests, and learn our library software so that they can check in and out books, technology, and creative kits. Station volunteers may assist staff in engaging youth and families in engaging creative activities; library volunteers may assist with maintaining technology or cataloguing new library items. Station & library volunteers may also assist in inventory, data entry, and cleaning.

LCSNW Unaccompanied Refugee Minor Program receives refugee youth ages 14-17 and places them into foster homes and group homes in the Spokane area. These youth have fled their countries due to war, conflict, and violence in search of safety and a better life. They do not have family to care for them, so our organization works to find them loving homes and reach their goals for success.

Are you willing to open your heart and home to a foster child? We’ll be honest, being a foster parent can be challenging. At the same time, we hear from many foster parents that they have grown from the experience.

In our LCS Northwest foster programs, we recruit, license and support foster parents. We are here to help foster parents so they aren’t in this alone. Our goal is to help you provide a stable home for youth who cannot live with their families. We recruit parents for two different programs – International Foster Care and Domestic Foster Care.

Foster parents and program staff work together to provide a safe haven to refugee and immigrant children from around the world. Refugee youth will be supported in their work to heal from past trauma while they pursue goals of learning English, getting an education, and preparing for a future of independence. Foster families are asked to make a long-term commitment to care for refugee child placed in their home.

Informational meetings for the Unaccompanied Refugee Minor Program are held on the second Tuesday of every month from 5:30-7:30pm at 210 W. Sprague, Spokane WA 99201.  Please contact us to RSVP.

This volunteer position has an important role in providing fresh meals to our senior clients. It will help us improve the nutrition and quality of the meals we deliver.

The tasks that you may be asked to perform:
• Prepping food with various kitchen utensils
• Portion, pack, and seal meals
• Cleaning (counter tops, cooking equipment, floors, etc.)
• Serve lunch to the seniors who attend Mid-City Senior Center (Monday-Friday)

To be eligible to help with this volunteer position you must:

This opportunity is available to anyone, 16 years of age or older, who wants to help feed the seniors in our community. You will be working in a team that includes staff member(s) and other volunteers. You do not need any prior experience working in a kitchen. Just a passion for serving your community. Overview: Produce creative, high-quality, unique images for use in print and online by capturing photos during special events and day-to-day operations at Mobius and offsite.

Responsibilities and Qualifications: Assemble and submit a photographic portfolio of activities at Mobius and offsite, obtain signed photographic releases when necessary, demonstrate advanced photographic ability by providing examples of work, must have the creativity and desire to assemble a body of work that is varied, dynamic, and interesting, must be able to stand/walk for at least 3 hours at a time, must provide own equipment, must have 3+ years of professional photography experience
