Keep regular positive communications with KYRS members and the public

General Duties

-          Send regular email news updates to KYRS list (monthly or more depending on what’s going on)

-          Maintain KYRS Facebook, Twitter, Instagram accounts with regular posts (weekly)

-          Periodically update website with current news and events

-          Periodically generate and distribute press releases regarding new programs and station news

-          Attend staff meetings if possible

-          Maintain regular communication with volunteer coordinator and station manager

A long-term volunteer commitment, you will receive broadcast training and support and become part of the vibrant community radio community in Spokane. Many of our programmers have stayed with the station since day one twelve years ago!

Here are a few weekly programs KYRS would love to have. If you have the interest and knowledge to host a program like this, please fill out the proposal form (link above).

MUSIC
- A music program focusing on spotlighting local artists through live interviews and in-studio performances. This would include touring bands coming through the area. The focus for this program will be what is happening in the Spokane and regional music scene.

- A reggae music program bringing KYRS listeners everything from early and roots reggae up through contemporary reggae music from around the world.

- A Latin music program with a focus on global contemporary Latin music, hot salsa, merengue, son, rumba, tango, samba and bossa nova.

COMMUNITY AFFAIRS
- Latino Community, a program covering a range of topics from education, leadership, political and cultural debates and interviews, information on current events and opportunities in education.

- Community Health, a program with far reaching health topics, from childbirth to end of life care, current health concerns, preventative medicine. Revolving topics with a consistent host interviewing guest experts, community health and medical professionals.

2-4 hrs/wk. Duties include answering phones, checking messages, returning phone calls, data entry, outgoing mail, assisting in office work during Fund Drives and fundraisers.

Without our volunteer support staff there would be no KYRS on the air. Help us keep the station running strong by volunteering with our office staff. We are a non-commercial station run by community members, for community members, and we want to keep it that way!

KYRS seeks news writers for its weekly local news radio program. Must have excellent reading and writing skills. Call for details 747-3012

KYRS Street Team
Help spread the word about KYRS events this year by putting up posters and handing out flyers around town at specified locations. We especially need people to hand out flyers at community events such as HoopFest, etc. Call the station for details: 509-747-3012. Just a few hours per month

KYRS Outreach
Help staff KYRS information tables at community events and service fairs. This is a great way to help us out, and to spread the word about KYRS. Call the station for information: 747-3012

Collect news releases and event announcements from area non-profits and type up Public Service Announcements to be read on-air by radio program hosts. Must have good English skills.

Have computer tech experience? Come help KYRS with periodic computer maintenance and troubleshooting. Several hours per month.
