Women & Children’s Free Restaurant & Community Kitchen serves women and children who need food assistance and community support. Since 1988, we have provided healthy chef-made meals, fresh groceries, and shelf-stable products to women, seniors, teens, and children.

Please consider joining our team as a kitchen assistant, dishwasher, or meal packager. There are no specific skills needed and you will receive excellent training as you work alongside our kitchen professionals. A Washington State Food Worker card is required.

As a member of our meal and grocery distribution team, you will help provide thousands of meals weekly to women and their families in our community. Volunteers in this role assist our staff with set up, loading food into vehicles, and directing drivers through the car line. Please reach out for a list of days and times available.

We’re looking for compassionate volunteers to join our Volunteer Transportation Program. Many oncology patients face challenges getting to their medical appointments due to limited transportation options. By volunteering, you can help ensure they receive the care they need—simply by offering a ride.

Our volunteer drivers provide safe, reliable transportation for cancer patients to and from their homes and hospitals or clinics throughout Spokane and surrounding communities. Your time and kindness can ease a stressful journey and truly make a difference in someone’s life.

This volunteer position has an important role in providing fresh meals to our senior clients. It will help us improve the nutrition and quality of the meals we deliver.

The tasks that you may be asked to perform:
• Prepping food with various kitchen utensils
• Portion, pack, and seal meals
• Cleaning (counter tops, cooking equipment, floors, etc.)
• Serve lunch to the seniors who attend Mid-City Senior Center (Monday-Friday)

Meals on Wheels Greater Spokane County is calling on compassionate individuals to help deliver meals to homebound seniors in Spokane County.

With growing demand in all areas, especially within the City of Spokane and northern neighborhoods, we urgently need new volunteers to ensure every senior receives the support they deserve. As a volunteer driver, you'll deliver 10 to 14 meals on a route that typically takes just 1 to 1.5 hours to complete. Most volunteers drive one day a week, but if you have limited availability, we welcome substitute drivers who can fill in as needed.

Volunteering with us is about more than delivering meals; it’s about fostering vital social connections that enhance the health and well-being of seniors. Community Resource Navigator volunteers support IRC staff with a variety of administrative activities in our Spokane office. Volunteers may greet clients and visitors to the office and assist with check-in processes, answer and direct phone calls, forward emails to the appropriate staff member, assist with organizing files, data entry, donations recording, copying and filing, and other administrative duties and special projects as assigned.

Musicians promote a healing environment for patients, staff and visitors.  Roles vary by campus.  Holy Family, musicians offer the gift of performing arts, such as singing or playing an instrument, to an audience or 1:1 with patients.  Auditions required.  

Assist our busy kitchen team with nutritional meal prep and delivery to patients. Must have an active Food Worker Card through the Washington State Department of Health

If you’re looking for a fun way to help shelter dogs and/or get your fitness steps in - look no further! Come volunteer at our shelter to walk dogs! Exercise and time socializing with people is so important for our canine critters that you’d be doing an amazing service for our dogs. Please note, some of our fur babies haven’t been taught leash etiquette and may be more of a workout than others. Our shelter staff and experienced volunteers will show you the ropes and help you select the dogs right for your comfort level. Your time with the dog outside of the shelter helps us learn more about them so we can help find the best adoption match.

We’re excited to be out and about in our community! BUT, we need more help! If you’re interested in volunteering your time to help staff our booths at community events, help with pets at special adoption events, or help at fundraisers - WE NEED YOU! Please note, RELIABILITY IS A MUST. When you agree to help, we’ll be depending on you to show up and stay for the duration of the event! We have great brochures and resources to help you answer questions and represent SpokAnimal and our pets too! Once you register as a volunteer, we’ll notify you when event help is needed. Do you love animals and are addicted to social media?  Why not combine these loves?  Come down and make the goofiest video of some of our pups or take the most amazing photos of our adorable kitties and make them go viral.  Help us reach people that we couldn’t otherwise and make a difference in the lives of homeless animals!

We depend on the kindness, love and homes of our foster parents to help us save hundreds of lives every year.  Members of our foster care program open up their homes for shelter animals.  They care for kittens or puppies until they are old enough for adoption, animals with illnesses and injuries until they are healed, and animals who need socialization or those who are not thriving in the shelter environment.  The time commitment varies upon the needs of the foster pet, but generally is between 2 weeks and 3 months. 

Fostering is a flexible, fun and rewarding volunteer experience, and requires a special person- able to invest themselves into the lives of foster pets, and let them go knowing they’ve helped save a life.  We provide all supplies foster parents need, from food and bedding to medication. While it is best to have some knowledge about animal behavior and health, we always try to match foster parents with animals whose needs are within your ability level, and we provide ongoing help and support throughout your foster experience. 

If you have your own animals, you’ll want to consider how they will adjust to having a foster pet. Some animals do very well with a temporary friend and can help socialize the foster animal. Other pets have a harder time with new animals being added to or leaving the family. You’re the best judge of your pet’s personality.  For the safety of your pets and the foster animal, it’s important to keep your pets up-to-date on vaccinations. In many cases, the foster pet will need to be isolated from your own pets, either temporarily or throughout the foster period.

Our adoptable cats reside at all three local PetSmarts, all three local PetCos and the Kitty Cantina plus we often bring dogs or puppies to these adoption centers.  These animals get scooped up by adopters and go off to start their new lives. We found homes for over 4,000 cats and dogs last year! At PetSmart and Petco, store volunteers keep the adoption areas clean and tidy, socialize the kitties, and help with adoptions.

The Habitat Store serves our work of building strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. The Habitat Store is a donation-based home improvement and goods store. One hundred percent of proceeds from donations of new and gently used items help fund our mission. The store depends on enthusiastic volunteers for everything from bringing in donated items to helping us sort donations in our warehouse to arranging merchandise. Whether volunteers prefer interacting with the public or working behind the scenes, we have a space for everyone!

Volunteer hours are flexible!  You are welcome to volunteer for one hour or a full day, you set your own schedule, anytime between 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Free Rein is a non-profit organization in Spokane, Washington dedicated to providing health, hope, and happiness for children and adults with special needs through equine-assisted services.

Free rein offers both adaptive riding and a military horsemanship program. 

Right now we are beginning our Spring Session (March - May) and we are in need of more volunteers to sign up and join our family!

As of now, we still need over 40 spots on our schedule filled with volunteers! Spots from Horse Leaders to Sidewalkers and Arena Assistants! 

Spring Session runs Tuesday-Thursday in the mornings and evenings, and Saturdays in the mornings.

Our Soul Cart Volunteers are an integral part of keeping our Inpatient population socially and emotionally healthy.  They offer social interaction, and cognitive activities to combat boredom, melancholy and depression.  We also offer a variety of self-care items to help our patients feel a sense of normalcy in their day-to-day routine.  

This volunteer opportunity will assist our team to pick up, log, and put away our weekly Walmart donations; complete physical inventories and some reorganization as needed (Saturday Storage Parties per quarter); and help with pulling items for a designated neighbor in need. Minimum lifting capability of 25 lbs required.

FRIDAY MORNING AVALABILITY (0830-1130) IS REQUIRED!

MOST positions require the volunteer to be 18 or older due to privacy issues. Outreach may permit 16-18 year olds to participate. All volunteers MUST pass a basic WSP background check.

SOME of the work can be done from the comfort of your home and public venues and is therefore ADA compatible. Others that are at our storage unit will be less accommodating due to location and type of work involved.

Feed Spokane picks up food from local grocers/retailers/ food establishments.  This food is then quality checked, repackaged, stored and ultimately redistributed to local food banks.  This volunteer opportunity is great for someone looking to make a big impact on food insecurity in our area.

Once a volunteer is familiar with our organization, opportunities exist to ride along with our drivers  on our food pick up route and ultimately drive if desired. 

From time to time we have senior clients who ask for help with household or gardening chores, basic handyperson-type tasks, or simple errands. For example, a senior might ask for help with light housekeeping tasks such as dusting and vacuuming, patio tidying and light gardening work, or help moving furniture (light to moderate weight, not very heavy) within their home. If you'd be up for tasks like these, please get in touch! These opportunities arise from time to time, maybe several times per year per volunteer.

Provide Information, escorting and wayfinding to patients and families as they enter the hospital, as well as other various tasks. 

We are looking for swag items to put in 100 bags given out at our Unity in the Community event on August 16th. 

Our busy emergency care team provides immediate high-level care, from sports injuries to heart attacks.  Volunteers assist staff with patient intake, provide wheelchair transportation for patients, and help with general cleaning and stocking tasks.  

The Surgery Center at Holy Family offers state-of-the-art technology, innovative treatment options, and a highly trained surgical staff.  Volunteers assist staff in this busy unit checking-in patients and escorting or transporting patients to their procedure or hospital room.

Habitat for Humanity-Spokane is welcoming volunteers to our build site in Spokane Valley, and with the City of Spokane. As a volunteer, you and others will spend the day using sustainable and responsible practices to build homes that last. The home building process can include framing, drywall, insulation, siding, floor installation, painting, and more. No prior experience is necessary, and people of all abilities are encouraged to participate. All volunteers work under the instruction of the Habitat site construction supervisor. This is a construction project building incredibly energy-efficient homes for families in need of a safe and affordable place to call home. All houses Habitat for Humanity-Spokane builds are sold to qualified low to medium -income families through the Habitat Homeownership Program.

Develop partnerships with other organizations such as Cheney Parks & Rec, EWU, and Cheney Public Schools to create, or bring to Cheney, history programs and events.  

We are looking to re-start collaborations with institutions in the community to connect history with activities for young people especially. From "a night at the museum" flashlight tour, a classroom visit with items from the museum to engage students in learning local history, or activities students could do in school as part of their curriculum, we can help young people engage with history and place.

There are also opportunities to bring exhibits, speakers, etc. to the community for a broader view of our history.  

The program coordinator will build the partnerships to make these activities possible. Much of this activity can be done on your own schedule without having to come to the museum.

For this volunteer opportunity, we need help picking up litter in your local parks. All you need to bring is yourself! Volunteer at your leisure any time. Just let us know which park you'd like to volunteer at 48 hrs in advance so we can have supplies ready for you if needed. 

A Parks representative will email you within 72 hours of signing up to discuss the volunteer locations and hours with you.

Volunteers at Hope Market provide a welcoming and helpful environment for shoppers.  They keep the shelves stocked with a variety of food.  Volunteers also help shoppers make selections from what is available in the cooler, freezer, and from the shelves of canned and dry goods in the food pantry.

Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

For this volunteer opportunity, we need help picking up litter in your local parks. All you need to bring is yourself! Volunteer at your leisure any time. Just let us know which park you'd like to volunteer at 48 hrs in advance so we can have supplies ready for you if needed. 

This version of the volunteer opportunity has the under 18 waiver for parents or guardians to allow their child to participate in the activity.

Volunteer responsibilities for this opportunity at Manito Park may include weeding and pruning plant material and raking and clearing plant material from garden beds and garden pathways. Volunteers are encouraged to volunteer any time that their schedules allow.

Inland Empire Legal Aid is seeking a Community Needs Liaisons to help us better understand the legal needs of the communities we serve. This volunteer will engage directly with community members and partner organizations to gather meaningful data on barriers to legal services, unmet legal needs, and opportunities for expanded outreach. The information collected will directly inform program development, clinic placement, and service delivery across IELA’s legal programs.

Please note the following: 

IELA regularly accepts student interns to fulfill their internship or volunteer hours. We accept students from SCC, Gonzaga and more. Student Interns/Volunteers can expect to shadow legal professionals at legal clinics, conduct office duties and attend outreach/community events. We require all students to come in for an informal interview and conduct a background check.

Do you want to give your time but don't have legal experience? We accept volunteers who just want to give their time supporting the daily work necessary to keep IELA sustainable. IELA regularly has office and community work that can be done. We offer training on all our tasks and give you flexibility to choose your hours. We will conduct a background check and an informal interview.
