SAN provides a weekly food pantry for our immunocompromised clients, people living with HIV & AIDS.  On a weekly average, we server about 50 clients.  We established this program last year after a hiatus and have not been able to get connected with 2nd Harvest due to the current crisis.  We work with 2 local non-profits to source food items, but they are even having a hard time getting enough food for their own clients, let alone helping us.  

At this time, we really always need additional volunteers and access to foods, especially those rich in protein like eggs, chicken breast, oats, milk, greek yogurt, beans, peanut butter, and fresh fruit and vegetables.  

SAN does have a large chest freezer and access to multiple refrigerators and enough storage to be able to store items.

Mission Community Outreach Center (MCOC) is open to everyone and works to remove barriers for our guests. With the support of volunteers, MCOC aims to assist those in need by providing items but also creating an atmosphere where everyone is welcome. This VISTA project would support MCOC’s established programs which provide clothing, hygiene items, and household essentials, through a heavy focus on revitalizing and maintaining volunteer programming with a supplemental opportunity to increase resources allocated to the organization through grant writing and fundraising. As the need for services increases in the community, this VISTA project will ensure there are engaged volunteers at MCOC, as well as financial resources allocated towards increasing the service capacity of MCOC. VISTA member assignments will include researching best practices for volunteer management and integrating them into current MCOC volunteer structure, improving the foundational structure of MCOC’s volunteer program, specifically focusing on volunteer recruitment and continued engagement, developing improved volunteer programming and processes, and increasing resources allocated to MCOC programming.

Help feed hungry kiddos during their visit!  Kitchen Volunteers help to prepare snacks and meals for children and adults (working their shift).  Kitchen volunteers follow a set menu but are allowed more flexibility and creativity as they become more comfortable in their position.

Overview: Produce creative, high-quality, unique images for use in print and online by capturing photos during special events and day-to-day operations at Mobius and offsite.

Responsibilities and Qualifications: Assemble and submit a photographic portfolio of activities at Mobius and offsite, obtain signed photographic releases when necessary, demonstrate advanced photographic ability by providing examples of work, must have the creativity and desire to assemble a body of work that is varied, dynamic, and interesting, must be able to stand/walk for at least 3 hours at a time, must provide own equipment, must have 3+ years of professional photography experience 

Our busy emergency care team provides immediate high-level care, from sports injuries to heart attacks.  Volunteers assist staff with patient intake, provide wheelchair transportation for patients, and help with general cleaning and stocking tasks.  

Volunteers assist the labor and delivery team with daily tasks such as rounding for patient comfort, restocking supplies, and occasionally with infant care when parents are unable.  

The Surgery Center at Holy Family offers state-of-the-art technology, innovative treatment options, and a highly trained surgical staff.  Volunteers assist staff in this busy unit checking-in patients and escorting or transporting patients to their procedure or hospital room.  

The person who is interested must have knowledge on how to write a grant, detailed, proper writing technique, research, draft, and submit proposals. All can be done in the comfort of your home. Will meet monthly via email or phone call.

Volunteering with hospice takes no advanced medical training or great commitment. All hospice volunteers are given assignments that best suit their time, skills and interests.

Habitat for Humanity-Spokane is welcoming volunteers to our build site in Spokane Valley, and with the City of Spokane. As a volunteer, you and others will spend the day using sustainable and responsible practices to build homes that last. The home building process can include framing, drywall, insulation, siding, floor installation, painting, and more. No prior experience is necessary, and people of all abilities are encouraged to participate. All volunteers work under the instruction of the Habitat site construction supervisor. This is a construction project building incredibly energy-efficient homes for families in need of a safe and affordable place to call home. All houses Habitat for Humanity-Spokane builds are sold to qualified low to medium -income families through the Habitat Homeownership Program.

Caritas FB is a nonprofit seeking to serve our neighbors in NW Spokane by providing food, basic essentials, transportation vouchers and utility assistance. We covenant to serve clients without prejudice or discrimination and to preserve their dignity.

Caritas FB is looking for a person(s) to help our team, every Monday, to unload 2 pallets. They will take donated food into the building with carts, and stage in the designated area(s). Once a month we get a 2nd delivery with an additional 2 pallets. Candidate(s) must be able to lift no more than 50 lbs, bend, stoop, push, pull, use of a step stool and carts.

Experience the benefit a dog visit brings to the health and well-being of hospitalized patients through this special program.  Dogs and their handlers must be certified with Pet Partners: Volunteer to Spread Joy and Comfort with Pets.

Spokane Helpers Network strives to provide food and basic essentials to low-income families in the greater Spokane area. Many of our recipients are disabled/elderly and homebound - so they are not able to go to food banks on their own. Others do not have reliable transportation. For that reason, we are seeking a volunteer who can pick up food supplies at 9:00 am Our Place Food Bank (1509 West College Avenue) and then deliver them to recipients in Wets Central on Thursday - bi-weekly.

Volunteers who pick up food must have their own cars and must be willing to donate gas.

In addition, drivers must have car insurance and must submit to a background check.

When the clock strikes noon on Saturday, April 26, hundreds of walkers and runners (and strollers!) are expected at Riverfront Park for Spokane’s 10th annual 5k Steps for Autism. The event caps off Autism Awareness Month and is being presented by Northwest Autism Center.

Steps for Autism is a unique opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the lives and relationships of those touched by autism.  This annual event promotes community inclusion and integration; healthcare providers walking alongside clients, teachers walking alongside students, and families walking alongside neighbors demonstrating the care and investment in each other that our region is known for.   

In the vendor village, participants will find several autism-friendly businesses and resource providers throughout the event and available for questions. 

Rain or shine, the Spokane community is encouraged to join the fun and help make this the most caring stroll ever!  The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the 5k walk/run/roll beginning at noon at the Ice Age Playground.

Transitional Living Center (TLC): Transitional housing with support services for homeless women and their children in 15 apartments and one permanent housing unit, access to playgrounds and gardens. Services include on-site case management, support groups, and community classes and events. TLC is dedicated to helping homeless women with children create stability in their lives.

Workshops will take place on Sunday afternoons at Maddie’s Place in Spokane and typically run 2-3 hours. We can provide space, some basic supplies, and staff support. Volunteers should be comfortable planning and leading a small group activity and engaging kindly with participants.

Mount Spokane has many great hiking, biking, and equestrian trails - day hikes that easily accommodate all interests and abilities. The trails are used year-round, and because of this the trails need to be heavily maintained and improved to withstand the continual foot/tire/hoof traffic plus winter snowpack. We will be conducting annual maintenance during this work party.

Mt Spokane is laced with a 100 mile trail system that is popular with hikers, bikers and equestrians in the summer and with skiers and snowshoers in the winter. The trail system runs from the base of the mountain to the summit and covers varied ecosystems ranging from wet cedar and hemlock forests, to dry lodgepole and ponderosa pine forests, to open meadows. Wildlife including deer, moose, the occasional bear and cougar can be found on the slopes of the mountains within this large park.

We'll have fun, work hard and make a difference! No experience is necessary.

We will be catching up on several annual maintenance needs during this work party. We will trim back encroaching vegetation and clear drainage. We may also do some tread repair if any is needed.

Our hike to the project site is expected to be 3-4 miles roundtrip over moderately steep terrain.

For safety reasons, arriving late or leaving early is not allowed.

A hard hat will be provided by WTA. Additionally, work gloves and eye protection will be provided by WTA if you do not have your own, but when possible we recommend bringing your own. For safety reasons, certain tasks may be assigned based on the safety level of your footwear. Volunteers who do not have long pants, or sturdy closed toes shoes, will not be able to participate in the work party.
