Opportunities From: Volunteer Spokane

Volunteer: Receptionist for Resource Pantry

Receptionist volunteers help the Resource Coordinator to check in and out households. Duties include checking in families on the NEYFS computer, signing up new households, helping to count and bag items, and being a friendly, welcoming presence to households. Receptionist volunteers work directly with NEYFS Resource Coordinator and households, and will be trained at their own pace. There are language barriers between households and receptionists at times, so use of translation software is welcome.

Volunteer: Community Garden Weeding, Planting / Harvesting and Odd Jobs

We need help on workdays (typically 4th Sat of the month, 9am - noon) and we have misc. tasks that could be done on other days/times too. On a workday we have gardeners and other volunteers/helpers come to the garden and work together on tasks like weeding, spreading wood chips or straw, organizing and cleaning shared areas around the tool box, bagging green waste and taking it to the curb, fixing up garden boxes, adding art to the fence or painting numbers on boxes. Most of these tasks can be done flexibly, at another time than the garden workday if needed.

For kids and families looking to volunteer, its a good opportunity to help out a community garden and there is a park and 2 playgrounds (big kids and little kids) just nearby, with coffee shops and kid-friendly shops around too.
