Garden volunteer jobs such as weeding, bagging and taking green waste to the curb, spreading straw and mulch, repairing raised beds, pruning plants or harvesting, laying down weed barrier and chips. Help us start the gardening season! 

Garden volunteers can work directly with the Resource Coordinator Mondays through Fridays, 9 to 10 am at our community garden on 1831 E Mission Ave. Garden volunteers work with the Resource Coordinator to: plant, weed, water, prune, mow the lawn, turn the compost, and prep the garden for each season. Garden volunteering is annually closed from November to March. All produce goes to our Little Free Pantry which we restock daily and is available for the Chief Gary Park Neighborhood. Email/text us to confirm availability (contact info below).

Receptionist volunteers help the Resource Coordinator to check in and out households. Duties include checking in families on the NEYFS computer, signing up new households, helping to count and bag items, and being a friendly, welcoming presence to households. Receptionist volunteers work directly with NEYFS Resource Coordinator and households, and will be trained at their own pace. There are language barriers between households and receptionists at times, so use of translation software is welcome.

This role includes sorting through and organizing our resources of clothing, hygiene, diapers, and/or food into storage or into our display closets. Depends on what needs to be organized! Timing is flexible, please email/text contact info to set up time.

Volunteer drives the NEYFS Resource Coordinator to Second Harvest’s Zilch’s Market Food Bank to load up the volunteer's car with food for our food pantry. Volunteer drives the NEYFS Resource Coordinator to get hygiene supplies from Dollar Tree and Walmart. We’re launching the Goofballs Gardening Club and honestly… it might be the best volunteer club we’ve ever made.

Lion’s Heart Children’s Grief Center is seeking creative and detail-oriented volunteers to support a meaningful activity at our Family Grief Day Camp. During camp, families participate in an art project where they create a poster representing their family using animal images to symbolize each family member.

Volunteers in this role will help prepare materials by collecting magazines and carefully cutting out photographs of animals for families to use during the activity. We are looking for individuals who can gather a variety of realistic animal images (no cartoons or clip art), organize them, and either mail them to us or arrange a time to deliver them.

Project Description: From Morin Trailhead, we will head North on the Centennial Trail to our main project area (about 1/4 mile from the trailhead). Myrtle Spurge is a noxious weed that prevents native vegetation from growing in areas where it creates a monoculture. Its inner sap can be toxic if ingested and can irritate the skin so full protective gear must be worn while handling the plant. We will be pulling Myrtle Spurge and bagging the plant for disposal.

Hiking Information: 1/4 mile on flat, paved trail to the project site. Once at the site, we will be hiking off trail to pull the invasive plant.

Caritas FB will be adding a new time for a food distribution. We will begin in May, once a month to start, 2nd Wednesday of each month, 4-6:30p. Caritas FB is set up like a grocery store where the client can self select their items while keeping their dignity in tact. The volunteer will walk the client thru to assist in selections and item limits. You will use a cart, pencil, and log sheet. Once client has finished, the items will be weighed and documented. Client will then unload items into their mode of transportation. There will be light cleaning and staging at the end of the shift. Volunteer will need to be able to stand, walk slowly, bend, some light lifting.

Job Overview
Spokane Youth Cheer is seeking Volunteer Youth Cheer Coaches for the 2026 season, beginning mid-July and running through mid-late November, with opportunities for dedicated coaches to return in subsequent seasons. 

Spokane Youth Cheer operates under the Spokane Youth Football and Cheer Association and participates in the Inland Northwest Youth Football and Cheer League, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization

Together, these organizations serve youth athletes across the region through structured, developmentally appropriate cheer programs that emphasize teamwork, confidence, discipline, physical literacy, and joy in sport.

Responsibilities
-Coaches are responsible for teaching age-appropriate cheer skills, leading practices, supporting athletes on game days, communicating with families, and modeling positive leadership and sportsmanship.
-Plan and teach cheerleading routines, stunts, and cheers tailored to various age groups
-Foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive attitude among youth participants
-Monitor safety during practices and performances, ensuring proper use of equipment and facilities
-Manage behavior and encourage respectful interactions among children
-Coordinate practice schedules and communicate effectively with parents and guardians
-Lead warm-up exercises and ensure all activities are conducted in a safe manner
-Support participants in developing confidence, coordination, and physical skills related to cheerleading and other sports

Qualifications

-Ability to pass a background check
-Current CPR certification
-Strong organizational skills
-The ability to learn and adapt quickly
-Demonstrated commitment to being a positive role model for youth.
-Coaches must be team-oriented, community-minded, and capable of working collaboratively with families and league leadership.
-All coaches must complete a coaching interest form, background check, CPR certification, required online trainings, and attend mandatory in-person trainings and pre-season meetings.

Time Commitment

Coaches may set their own practice schedules for their teams. Recommended practice frequency is 3-5 practices (10 hours maximum) per week during the summer before school begins, transitioning to 1-3 practices (6 hours maximum) per week once the school year starts.

The season includes eight regular-season games, up to three playoff games, an all-day cheer clinic in August, and a cheer competition in October, with post-season competitive opportunities available for teams that qualify.

Experience
-Prior experience in youth sports coaching, teaching, physical education, or working with children is highly desirable
-Background in cheerleading, dance, or gymnastics a plus
-Knowledge of behavior management techniques to foster discipline and positive conduct among youth
-Comfort and confidence leading small to medium-sized groups of children. Some coaching positions involve narrower age ranges and may be requested based on coach preference and availability.

Volunteers at Hope Market provide a welcoming and helpful environment for shoppers.  They keep the shelves stocked with a variety of food.  Volunteers also help shoppers make selections from what is available in the cooler, freezer, and from the shelves of canned and dry goods in the food pantry.

Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Create Space is the MAC’s family activity space. It is geared toward families with children from 1 to 12, but open for visitors of all ages. There are exhibition-related crafts available for families in this space, as well as coloring pages, books, building materials, and other educational toys. As a volunteer in Create Space, you will welcome guests of all ages into the space, offer help with activities, and direct visitors to gallery spaces. You will encourage creativity and interaction with themed activities. You will also test activities made available for guests, and suggest age-appropriate ones to visitors. There will also be opportunities to prep supplies for regular and special programming, such as Plateau Basket Weaving and Campbell House Holidays. With Youth Education staff oversight, the option to develop your own crafts and activities is a possibility. At Garry Middle School Homework Club is Monday through Thursday 3:30pm-5:30pm. We are seeking 1-2 volunteers per day. They have about 20-30 students who attend on average each day. Any volunteers who sign up will be required to fill out a Spokane Public Schools background check. 

At North Central High School, the Homework Center meets Monday-Thursday from 2:30-4:30 pm, and they are seeking someone who can volunteer on a regular basis either weekly or bi-weekly, whichever is easier for scheduling. They are specifically looking for someone interested in supporting Chemistry who is able to come in on any of the days listed. This is high school level curriculum so it might be a bit harder to tutor if it isn't someone's area of expertise, but they would love consistent support.

The goal of the Reading Buddy Program is to help children improve their reading skills & gain confidence as readers.

The program pairs volunteers, as mentors, with elementary school students.

Students meet with their reading buddy once per week for 8 weeks at the students’ school to read together one-on-one and foster a love of reading. Each reading buddy is a volunteer who has passed a background check and received training.

As a reading buddy, you meet with an elementary school student once per week for 8 weeks to read together one-on-one and foster a love of reading.

Develop partnerships with other organizations such as Cheney Parks & Rec, EWU, and Cheney Public Schools to create, or bring to Cheney, history programs and events.  

We are looking to re-start collaborations with institutions in the community to connect history with activities for young people especially. From classroom visits with items from the museum to engage students in learning local history, to activities students could do in school as part of their curriculum, we can help young people engage with history and place.

There are also opportunities to bring exhibits, speakers, etc. to the community for a broader view of our history.  

The program coordinator will build the partnerships to make these activities possible. Much of this activity can be done on your own schedule without having to come to the museum.

SEEKING DRIVERS to help transport youth

You can make a difference in the life of a foster child by becoming a "Drive from the Heart" volunteer driver with the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families. We are currently searching for volunteers who can offer as little as a few hours of their time each week to transport foster children to visits and therapy appts.

We will provide necessary car seats, CPR training, CPR certification, and mileage reimbursement will be provided from the moment you leave to pick up a child.

The Shelter Resident Transition Service Associates help shelter residents create personalized plans to overcome roadblocks and transition to sustainable housing solutions. They play a critical role in reducing disaster-caused displacement and aiding in long-term recovery for individuals.

This group project will be located at our Transitional Living Center. Help clean and ready vacated apartments so they are quickly available for new families who are waiting to move into TLC.

Transitional Living Center (TLC): Transitional housing with support services for homeless women and their children in 15 apartments and one permanent housing unit, access to playgrounds and gardens. Services include on-site case management, support groups, and community classes and events. TLC is dedicated to helping homeless women with children create stability in their lives.

Habitat for Humanity-Spokane is welcoming volunteers to our build site in Spokane Valley, and with the City of Spokane. As a volunteer, you and others will spend the day using sustainable and responsible practices to build homes that last. The home building process can include framing, drywall, insulation, siding, floor installation, painting, and more. No prior experience is necessary, and people of all abilities are encouraged to participate. All volunteers work under the instruction of the Habitat site construction supervisor. This is a construction project building incredibly energy-efficient homes for families in need of a safe and affordable place to call home. All houses Habitat for Humanity-Spokane builds are sold to qualified low to medium -income families through the Habitat Homeownership Program.

The Surgery Center at Holy Family offers state-of-the-art technology, innovative treatment options, and a highly trained surgical staff.  Volunteers assist staff in this busy unit checking-in patients and escorting or transporting patients to their procedure or hospital room.  

Our busy emergency care team provides immediate high-level care, from sports injuries to heart attacks.  Volunteers assist staff with patient intake, provide wheelchair transportation for patients, and help with general cleaning and stocking tasks.  

Overview: Produce creative, high-quality, unique images for use in print and online by capturing photos during special events and day-to-day operations at Mobius and offsite.

Responsibilities and Qualifications: Assemble and submit a photographic portfolio of activities at Mobius and offsite, obtain signed photographic releases when necessary, demonstrate advanced photographic ability by providing examples of work, must have the creativity and desire to assemble a body of work that is varied, dynamic, and interesting, must be able to stand/walk for at least 3 hours at a time, must provide own equipment, must have 3+ years of professional photography experience 

Help feed hungry kiddos during their visit!  Kitchen Volunteers help to prepare snacks and meals for children and adults (working their shift).  Kitchen volunteers follow a set menu but are allowed more flexibility and creativity as they become more comfortable in their position.

This is an all weather outdoor position working with the public that requires bending lifting and standing. At your designated “station”  you will help distribute food items based on the guidelines for an average household of 4/5 people unless otherwise specified.  Restock the shopping line from the back-up supplies set up for you.  Addressing any dietary restrictions or special requests via  assistance from the runner on shift or the Assistant Food Bank Manager.

Try to park away from the building during service times Wednesdays 3-6pm and Thursdays 10am to 12:30 to make it easier for clients to load their food, clothing or laundry.

Provide Information, escorting and wayfinding to patients and families as they enter the hospital, as well as other various tasks. 

From time to time we have senior clients who ask for help with household or gardening chores, basic handyperson-type tasks, or simple errands. For example, a senior might ask for help with light housekeeping tasks such as dusting and vacuuming, patio tidying and light gardening work, or help moving furniture (light to moderate weight, not very heavy) within their home. If you'd be up for tasks like these, please get in touch! These opportunities arise from time to time, maybe several times per year per volunteer.

The Grant Research Volunteer position involves actively participating in the Research Committee, a team of dedicated volunteers that provides valuable insights and recommendations to the Board and Foundation staff regarding grant research strategies and funding opportunities. This role focuses on conducting research for potential grants and contributing to budgeting recommendations necessary to facilitate successful grant acquisition.

Orientation and Training

This role is purely voluntary, and this arrangement is not meant to be legally binding to an employment contract. Out-of-pocket travel costs between home and volunteering place will be offered. 

Feed Spokane picks up food from local grocers/retailers/ food establishments.  This food is then quality checked, repackaged, stored and ultimately redistributed to local food banks.  This volunteer opportunity is great for someone looking to make a big impact on food insecurity in our area.

Once a volunteer is familiar with our organization, opportunities exist to ride along with our drivers  on our food pick up route and ultimately drive if desired. 

SVCA has (3) programs right now and are looking for local individuals interested in helping in the following ways:

2. On call intake/phones (work in your home, calls forwarded to you)(training provided)

3. Outreach

REACT Rapid Response Network:

1. Administrative paperwork related to inventory, etc

2. Outreach to recruit community members onto the network

MOST positions require the volunteer to be 18 or older due to privacy issues. Outreach may permit 16-18 year olds to participate. All volunteers MUST pass a basic WSP background check.

SOME of the work can be done from the comfort of your home and public venues and is therefore ADA compatible. Others that are at our storage unit will be less accommodating due to location and type of work involved.

This volunteer opportunity will assist our team to pick up, log, and put away our weekly Walmart donations; complete physical inventories and some reorganization as needed (Saturday Storage Parties per quarter); and help with pulling items for a designated neighbor in need. Minimum lifting capability of 25 lbs required.

FRIDAY MORNING AVALABILITY (0830-1130) IS REQUIRED!

Our Soul Cart Volunteers are an integral part of keeping our Inpatient population socially and emotionally healthy.  They offer social interaction, and cognitive activities to combat boredom, melancholy and depression.  We also offer a variety of self-care items to help our patients feel a sense of normalcy in their day-to-day routine.

Free Rein is a non-profit organization in Spokane, Washington dedicated to providing health, hope, and happiness for children and adults with special needs through equine-assisted services.

Free rein offers both adaptive riding and a military horsemanship program. 

Right now we are beginning our Spring Session (March - May) and we are in need of more volunteers to sign up and join our family!

As of now, we still need over 40 spots on our schedule filled with volunteers! Spots from Horse Leaders to Sidewalkers and Arena Assistants! 

Spring Session runs Tuesday-Thursday in the mornings and evenings, and Saturdays in the mornings.

The Habitat Store serves our work of building strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. The Habitat Store is a donation-based home improvement and goods store. One hundred percent of proceeds from donations of new and gently used items help fund our mission. The store depends on enthusiastic volunteers for everything from bringing in donated items to helping us sort donations in our warehouse to arranging merchandise. Whether volunteers prefer interacting with the public or working behind the scenes, we have a space for everyone!

Volunteer hours are flexible!  You are welcome to volunteer for one hour or a full day, you set your own schedule, anytime between 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Our adoptable cats reside at all three local PetSmarts, all three local PetCos and the Kitty Cantina plus we often bring dogs or puppies to these adoption centers.  These animals get scooped up by adopters and go off to start their new lives. We found homes for over 4,000 cats and dogs last year! At PetSmart and Petco, store volunteers keep the adoption areas clean and tidy, socialize the kitties, and help with adoptions.

We depend on the kindness, love and homes of our foster parents to help us save hundreds of lives every year.  Members of our foster care program open up their homes for shelter animals.  They care for kittens or puppies until they are old enough for adoption, animals with illnesses and injuries until they are healed, and animals who need socialization or those who are not thriving in the shelter environment.  The time commitment varies upon the needs of the foster pet, but generally is between 2 weeks and 3 months. 

Fostering is a flexible, fun and rewarding volunteer experience, and requires a special person- able to invest themselves into the lives of foster pets, and let them go knowing they’ve helped save a life.  We provide all supplies foster parents need, from food and bedding to medication. While it is best to have some knowledge about animal behavior and health, we always try to match foster parents with animals whose needs are within your ability level, and we provide ongoing help and support throughout your foster experience. 

If you have your own animals, you’ll want to consider how they will adjust to having a foster pet. Some animals do very well with a temporary friend and can help socialize the foster animal. Other pets have a harder time with new animals being added to or leaving the family. You’re the best judge of your pet’s personality.  For the safety of your pets and the foster animal, it’s important to keep your pets up-to-date on vaccinations. In many cases, the foster pet will need to be isolated from your own pets, either temporarily or throughout the foster period.

Do you love animals and are addicted to social media?  Why not combine these loves?  Come down and make the goofiest video of some of our pups or take the most amazing photos of our adorable kitties and make them go viral.  Help us reach people that we couldn’t otherwise and make a difference in the lives of homeless animals!

If you’re interested in volunteering your time to help staff our booths at community events, help with pets at special adoption events, or help at fundraisers - WE NEED YOU! Please note, RELIABILITY IS A MUST. When you agree to help, we’ll be depending on you to show up and stay for the duration of the event! We have great brochures and resources to help you answer questions and represent SpokAnimal and our pets too! Once you register as a volunteer, we’ll notify you when event help is needed. If you’re looking for a fun way to help shelter dogs and/or get your fitness steps in - look no further! Come volunteer at our shelter to walk dogs! Exercise and time socializing with people is so important for our canine critters that you’d be doing an amazing service for our dogs. Please note, some of our fur babies haven’t been taught leash etiquette and may be more of a workout than others. Our shelter staff and experienced volunteers will show you the ropes and help you select the dogs right for your comfort level. Your time with the dog outside of the shelter helps us learn more about them so we can help find the best adoption match.

Assist our busy kitchen team with nutritional meal prep and delivery to patients. Must have an active Food Worker Card through the Washington State Department of Health

Musicians promote a healing environment for patients, staff and visitors.  Roles vary by campus.  Holy Family, musicians offer the gift of performing arts, such as singing or playing an instrument, to an audience or 1:1 with patients.  Auditions required.  

Community Resource Navigator volunteers support IRC staff with a variety of administrative activities in our Spokane office. Volunteers may greet clients and visitors to the office and assist with check-in processes, answer and direct phone calls, forward emails to the appropriate staff member, assist with organizing files, data entry, donations recording, copying and filing, and other administrative duties and special projects as assigned.

Scope of Volunteer Work: Volunteer as a Youth Academic Tutor to help newcomer students build academic skills and confidence! The IRC’s Youth Program provides tutoring, mentoring, and parent support programming for students and their families.  With guidance from IRC staff, volunteers work one-on-one with students to practice English language skills, assist with homework, and facilitate educational games and activities. Students and tutors will work together to develop academic skills, including reading, math and science. Tutors support learning through empowerment, positive engagement and providing expertise on school subjects!  

Location: Tutoring sessions take place primarily in students’ homes. Accommodation can be arranged as necessary.  

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours/week. Later afternoon/early evening availability required. Tutors must be able to commit to at least 1 day/week.  Academic tutoring programs run through October to May during the school year or June through late August for summer programs.  

Essential Position Functions: 

 Must have transportation. Being bilingual is not a requirement. 

Mobius Discovery Center encourages children to jump headfirst into fun through STEAM-based exhibits. We need a group of 10-20 volunteers to help prep supplies for Superstruct -- an exhibit where guests build cars and other creations out of cardboard, tape, and straws. 

We need your help with the cardboard pieces. They come in large sheets with perforated shapes that need to be punched out. It's a fun, easy activity for groups of volunteers, plus it's a huge help to Mobius. We see an average of 1,000 visitors each week -- that's a lot of cardboard pieces!

Shifts are flexible and may occur on Mondays or Tuesdays. Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes. 

Meals on Wheels Greater Spokane County is calling on compassionate individuals to help deliver meals to homebound seniors in Spokane County.

With growing demand in all areas, especially within the City of Spokane and northern neighborhoods, we urgently need new volunteers to ensure every senior receives the support they deserve. As a volunteer driver, you'll deliver 10 to 14 meals on a route that typically takes just 1 to 1.5 hours to complete. Most volunteers drive one day a week, but if you have limited availability, we welcome substitute drivers who can fill in as needed.

Volunteering with us is about more than delivering meals; it’s about fostering vital social connections that enhance the health and well-being of seniors. Many of our volunteers are retirees eager to give back, college students exploring meaningful community service opportunities, or families who enjoy making memories while spreading joy to seniors. Women & Children’s Free Restaurant & Community Kitchen serves women and children who need food assistance and community support. Since 1988, we have provided healthy chef-made meals, fresh groceries, and shelf-stable products to women, seniors, teens, and children.
