Who We Are
We provide therapeutic riding and horsemanship programs for a variety of people dealing with disabilities, ranging from individuals with cerebral palsy to military members with PTSD. Our program relies heavily on a large number of dedicated and qualified volunteers to not only support each of our riders, but also our horses. Each riding participant requires one to three volunteers to assist them during a class either physically while they are on the horse or simply for mental reassurance. We also have a variety of other support needs including administrative work, facility maintenance, equine care, fundraising help, and so on.
What We Do
Free Rein Therapeutic Riding is a therapeutic riding center located just south of Downtown Spokane Washington. We offer adaptive riding and horsemanship programs to children and adults with disabilities using horses. The riders in our program are very diverse. Their goals range from strengthening muscles and improving balance to problem solving and developing better focus and communication skills. Horses are amazing animals and tool we can use to improve both physical and emotional health; horseback riding can improve body strength and balance; controlling an animal as large as a horse can increase confidence and motivate riders to progress their skills beyond where they thought they could. These newfound skills, strength and confidence often carry into the riders’ everyday lives.
Our goal at Free Rein is to provide a positive therapeutic environment for riders, their families, and our volunteers to learn, grow and build relationships in a caring, compassionate and fun atmosphere.
Free Rein was founded in the summer of 2008 in order to provide a facility where those with physical, mental or emotional challenges could experience the profound benefits of therapeutic horseback riding in the Spokane area.
