Who We Are

The Fig Tree publishes a newspaper distributed to approximately 30,000 readers with stories connecting people in the faith and nonprofit communities, telling of how people are working on solutions to today's issues as a way to live their values. Its website includes newspaper content and more. It covers issues of rural and urban communities to build awareness. Faith and nonprofit organizations often find their messages reshaped in mass media, rather than having their messages inspire others and change lives. The Fig Tree publishes 22,500 copies of its annual Resource Directory: Guide to Congregations and Community Resources in collaboration with the Community Colleges of Spokane Headstart/ECEAP.  The directory is available online.

What We Do

The Fig Tree is a a nonprofit, interfaith, ecumenical multimedia organization providing stories in its monthly newspaper in print and online of people putting their faith and values into action to make a difference in the Inland Northwest. It is a crucial alternative media voice, fostering communication and cooperative action among the congregations and agencies of the region. The Fig Tree emerged as an outreach of the Spokane Council of Ecumenical Ministries, beginning in 1984 with publishing local stories of faith in action. The Fig Tree has expanded and in 2001 became an independent nonprofit organization with multimedia services and increased readership focusing on both the faith community and non-profit organizations.
