Who We Are

MISSION To offer prevention and service projects that support and encourage community cohesion through restorative justice practices and educational opportunities for youth. VISION To build safe, healthy, engaged neighborhoods where all community members have the opportunity to thrive and explore their unique self through creative self-expression and positive community engagement.

What We Do

All projects will incorporate kinetic learning for 12-18 yr olds. Projects will be designed to support the needs and desires of the Hillyard and surrounding communities through direct community input.

One of our Projects is with Special Needs - Mobility/Mental strengthening, integrative restorative practices, creative movement expression, physical health and more. Partnering with educational organizations and other service providers for a mentor and volunteer recruitment. Offering clients with State INS respite hours front-of-line access to one-on-one classes.

Community service opportunities for Youth and Adults: Creating Our Space - Offering opportunities for neighborhood youth to complete court-ordered community service requirements within walking distance of their home. Weekends only. 1 mentor to every 3 youth members.

Just One will partner volunteers with youth looking to complete community service hours. Volunteering hours will be onsite only.

1) Guiding youth through design and build process for Just One parking lot, incorporating various, durable art materials.

2) Hands-on community garden project. Designing and building an artistic parking lot/garden and other projects.

The proposed outcome for service project: After completion of these two projects, Just One will organize social gatherings including BBQs, fundraisers, music events, youth art shows, and more for parents, youth, families and other community members to come together and engage with one another in healthy community spaces. These gatherings will occur approximately every 6 weeks beginning in the spring and ending in the fall.

Music: Freedom of Expression through Music This project will teach youth how to work with and maintain sound equipment. Skill goals include multi-tasking, clear communication, troubleshooting, technical aspects, advocacy, and creative expression. Discussions surrounding genre, artists, lyrics, history, culture, style and more will develop through volunteer facilitation.

Art: Freedom of Expression through Art. This project provides a safe place for youth to explore creative expression through multimedia materials. Skills include identifying art materials, cultural art history, art genres, advocacy, and more. volunteers provide positive motivation, guidance, encouragement, and instruction for young artists, creating a space for them to explore the creative energy within them that seeks healthy expression.

Cosmetology: Freedom of Expression through Design. Provide youth space to explore body image and unique style. Educate youth in areas of self-advocacy and positive self-image through the cultivation of clear communication skills. Mentoring young men and women to effectively communicate their needs through language and the creative process.

Fashion: To build confidence and character against obstacles and rejection, using fashion as a tool to establish rapport and connections that will help build future opportunities for young teens. Building skills by teaching basic knowledge of the fashion industry and how to apply it to present and future job opportunities.
