Communities In Schools of Spokane County

Who We Are

We are part of the nation's leading dropout prevention organization, working in public schools to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

In Spokane County last year, our Site Coordinators helped 6,342 students overcome barriers to school success, stay on track to graduate, and aim for a brighter future.

We place Communities In Schools Site Coordinators directly in schools to connect students with volunteers and services that reduce obstacles to learning. By channeling community support directly to kids at school we promote student success, ease the burden on schools, and free teachers to teach.

We support schools in Spokane and Cheney with Site Coordinators.  In addition, 20 more schools use our PrimeTime Mentoring program to match youth at risk of school failure with a caring adult who mentors right at school.  Other integrated student services include meeting basic needs with food, school and hygiene supplies, academic support, college and career exploration, parent education, and summer learning options.

What We Do

Communities In Schools is the nation's largest dropout prevention organization. We connect targeted community resources to the students in public schools. We provide Site Coordinators in individual schools who create meaningful relationships with 10% of the student body referred for year-long case management to help students reach their goals for school success and graduation. Last year 79% of the 428 youth whom we supported intensively made progress in the ABCs:  attendance, behavior, and course work. 83% met their goal in school attendance, 75% met their goal in school behavior and 78% met their goal in school course work.
